The trick is to keep everything

The Parade Float Disaster outfit

Global work calls at 6am can mar your sense of proportion. Individually, I adore these pieces. Together, they didn’t yield the desired effect. Heavy chunky shoes + billowing coat = parade float disaster.

Prada modern oxfords

These are best suited with a sleeker outfit or trim jacket. Under the sails of today’s coat, they felt clunky and excessive.

These are almost 10 years old, from the FW 2015 menswear collection. The abstract sole always brings to mind dental molds.

Minimalist bolero

Found in modern jewelry / accessories store in Budapest. I usually wear it as a necklace over t-shirts, not cinched. The first time one of my Dutch colleagues asked me what it was, I coolly replied “A hotspot”. He was blown away. I felt bad when I told him it was just a necklace.

Weekday vest

As much as I like to think this guy is functional, he doesn’t provide much warmth in chilly weather. Simple knit adornment. But he’s cute.

Henrik Vibskov Box coat

Were this world more like the world of Henrik Vibskov. The closest we can get is by dressing like we’re in his land of offbeat concepts, proportions, patterns, and color. Bought this from their Soho boutique in NYC. The trick is to keep everything else slim and flat. Lesson learned.

This appeared in white in the 2024 S/S show, so I was delighted to find it in blue. It’s inspired by office storage / moving boxes, with carry handle cutouts throughout the garment. Generously cut and fits like a swingy blanket. My favorite feature: the flat and wide chute sleeves that take a sheer drop from the shoulder. There’s some origami magic to the way this is constructed.

Prada Brique bag

From box coat to brick bag. A bit too on the nose (square shapes), but this unassuming bag does the trick and mercifully didn’t add additional bulk to the billowing fuckup that was today’s outfit. Thank you for your service, little guy.
