Tailfin

The 7 minute walk to work outfit

Needles jacket

As close to camo as I’ll ever allow in my wardrobe. The super tactile cotton and tarnished colors of this trucker jacket remind me of upholstery. Anything that looks and feels like old furniture is a good thing. 80% off retail is also a good thing.

J.Crew scarf

Back in the day, J.Crew released a wilder, more brazen collection called Collection (:/), which was basically Jenna Lyons unleashed. I loved its maximalism (piles and piles of texture, color, pattern, materials). Of course they didn’t make a Collection for men. But I do have this scarf, and whenever I pull it out, I’m inspired to mix it with more More MORE.

Gucci loafers

My first pair of Gucci shoes. Bought roughly 15 years ago while shopping with Terrence Trent, when downtown had retail for men. I really couldn’t afford such things but these were too pretty to pass up. These are very Alessandro Michele, but years before his time as creative director. One of my oldest items. Scuffed with love.

Weekday vest

Putting this on, it hit me how much I took for granted having access to the Amsterdam Weekday store 4x a year. I miss every floor of that store. This cropped buttoned-up layer paired very well with the Needles jacket. The combo felt like Prada 2010.

Acne Studios Distortion bag

First saw this bag at Liberty’s, shortly after I bought the Prada Brique. It’s like when you land the perfect husband and then see someone edgier on your honeymoon. He’s angular, striking, offbeat, and feels / smells so good.

The amazing thing about this bag: when worn sidesaddle, it gives your silhouette a sporty tailfin. Anything that makes you look like a vintage car is a keeper.
