The Muted Monday outfit
COS convertible jacket
High tea at Sketch is always preceded or followed by a quick hop into COS on Mayfair. I bought this a few years ago while celebrating my birthday in London, and it’s perhaps the best-cut item I’ve purchased from the brand. It felt like the right choice for a day when I needed to crank out a lot of work, and didn’t want to feel encumbered.
Needles tulip hat
At first I thought this hat just didn’t go with my outfit, but maybe I shouldn’t mess with tulip hats altogether. My boss told me I looked like a sad Paddington in it. I also have the visage of an aging baby; a tulip hat might augment my cherubic crone features. Will give it one more go before donating it to some gay clothing drive.
Burberry Prorsum clutch
Again, I felt like being unfussy today, so I put everything into this clutch and slid it into my Porter rucksack along with my laptop, notebook and water bottle. On insignificant heavy work days (especially on a Monday), it’s nice to only have a backpack on.
Did I just say that?
Signet ring
I wonder if I can get this either tightened or loosened. It feels a little loose on my pinky, but it’s too tight on my ring finger. I really don’t want this to slip off - it’s pretty, and I’ll lose my dark gay magic if this is ever lost.
Zara cropped vest
This nubby beast was a gamble, but a $20 gamble. Again, cropped vests remind me of Prada menswear, and I love the look of this knit. While it does add some warmth, it also adds bulk - which is why I normally avoid chunky knits. Still, it helped save my otherwise muted outfit from being super dull.
Dolce & Gabbana boots
Let it be known: I’m not a fan of Dolce & Gabbana. This predates a lot of their controversial remarks and ads; I’m simply not a fan of their work, and have no interest in being a part of that world. This is why it pains me to (grudgingly) hold these boots in such high regard. The textured leather, the comfort, and the SHAPE… these blue chip boots can open envelopes.
