Doorways, thieves and magic

My Christmas gift to myself - a new leather jacket - is still not ready. Not. Happy. Cheered myself up by grabbing another beloved leather jacket from my closet to indulge in magazines from Smoke Signals before lunch (salad and fries).

The Patience is a Virtue outfit

Hermes tee

The youngest in Olympus has always been my favorite Greek god (not my favorite fashion house). What’s not to love? God of (among other things) commerce, eloquence, gymnastics, roads, doorways, thieves, and magic. A clever trickster, but responsible as both a psychopomp and a messenger. And he knows how to accessorize. Is it any wonder then that when I decided to get a tattoo it was in honor and service to my guy?

Gucci snake bag

Red snakes hold several symbolic meanings; some good (healing, protection, life), some bad (danger, warning, death). Some say they represent transformation and renewal. Whatever they mean, they look great when set against black leather. More bags should feature totems.

Johnson Leathers Type 1 jacket

There are amazing leather jackets to be found, but unless your measurements match those of an industry fit model (in which case, congrats / I loathe you), there will likely be something off about the fit. I’d love to have a Y’2, Rainbow Country, or Fine Creek jacket (they’re gorgeous), but they don’t suit my body type.

I have a particular issue with designer leather jackets. When you reach a certain echelon that are 2-4x the price of a custom leather jacket, it makes more sense (to me) to go custom. Some might want to have the luxury brand association, and I get that. But playing god with hides, seams, cuffs, lining, pockets, zippers, buttons, to create a singular glove-like fit, is its own brand of luxury.

Panda charm bracelet

Found this in a shop on Cat Street that’s equal parts girly and goth. I don’t think I’m their target demographic but does it matter? It’s actually a necklace / choker but we won’t go there. Wrapped around my wrist (atop a fingerless knit glove) is more appropriate for a geezer like me. It sounds like there’s a cat nearby when I wear it.

Stubbs & Wootton mirrorball loafers

My first pair of Stubbs & Wootton loafers featured crossbones and skulls. I didn’t like the pirate connotation, but they were fun black slippers that I wore to death (literally - a hole formed through the sole after years of use). Most S&W designs aren’t up my street, but sometimes they hit the mark. Like these.

My favorite kind of music is anything with a disco baseline. The mirrorball, the velvet, the spray of sparkles along the side, they all pay homage to my Spotify account. A literal party on my feet.
